Everything You Can Do in the Photoshop Mobile App

Adobe has launched a mobile app of Photoshop for iPhone and Android. Here are its main features.

Adobe has once again attempted to make its famous Photoshop program accessible on mobile devices with the launch of a new app, designed to reconstruct the desktop software experience on smartphones. This app, which is already available for iOS and in beta for Android, aims to incorporate as many tools and features from the full software as possible, optimizing them for use on touch screens.

Despite Adobe's past attempts to adapt Photoshop to a mobile format, the new app brings renewed features that promise to facilitate image editing more efficiently on smaller devices. While not all functions from the desktop program will be available, users will find an interesting variety worth exploring.

When starting a new project in the iOS version, users have the option to apply a “quick action” to the image. This feature, which will soon be available for the Android version, allows for immediate basic changes, such as removing the background of an image. Photoshop attempts to identify the main subject and eliminate the rest, allowing users to then add a different background. Other quick options include adding a solid color background or converting the background to black and white.

Layer and mask management is vital in the advanced editing process, and the new app allows users to create and modify layers with ease. Each layer has its own settings that can be adjusted through the layer property in the toolbar. Additionally, users can use buttons to create masks and make precise selections to enhance their edits.

The app features a diverse set of selection tools. When selecting an area, users can choose from seven different methods, such as quick selection or the magic wand, even combining different options to obtain the desired area. Once selected, a variety of adjustments and filters can be applied to the image.

Regarding editing tools, the mobile app retains many of the iconic functions of Photoshop, such as the cloning tool and smoothing. Upon accessing the restoration functionality, users can correct imperfections, duplicate parts of the image, and make clarity adjustments. The toolbar also offers options to paint and erase parts of the image, allowing for complete control over the editing process.

With an adapted interface and multiple resources, Adobe hopes that users will feel comfortable using these tools on their phones, achieving impressive results with just a few taps. The app also includes guide and undo/redo features, ensuring that all users, from beginners to advanced, can enjoy a smooth and powerful editing experience.
