Google's Gboard may soon incorporate an AI-powered meme generator.

Google is working on an AI-based meme generator. This can be considered good or bad news, depending on the generation you belong to.

Google is working on an AI-powered meme generator aimed at making meme creation easier through Gboard. This new feature, internally referred to as “Meme Studio,” has faced some criticism according to a recent report.

The generator will offer users two ways to create memes: the “custom” option and the “generate” option. The first allows users to select a base image from thousands of available options and add their own text. Meanwhile, the “generate” option stands out, although it may face similar criticism once implemented. By selecting this feature, the AI picks a base image and generates captions based on a specific theme. Users will have several suggestions to choose from, as well as the option to create their own caption from scratch. It is important to mention that this feature requires an internet connection, as it operates server-side.

At this moment, the “generate” option has been criticized for creating “ironically bad memes” that fail to connect with the culture and humor of Generation Z. Part of the criticism lies in the built-in filters that prevent the generation of explicit or offensive content. Analysts suggest that these restrictions are in place because “Meme Studio” seems to be aimed at an older audience or those who haven’t found anything to use in other meme-generating tools.

It is important to remember that this feature is not yet available and will likely experience improvements before its wider launch. Additional updates may also be implemented once Google gathers user feedback. The meme generator is expected to be appealing to both younger and older audiences.
