Racist Videos Generated by Artificial Intelligence Go Viral on TikTok.
One of the videos generated by artificial intelligence received over 14 million views.
Recent investigations have revealed that videos generated by Google's AI tool Veo 3 have amassed millions of views on TikTok. These contents, according to an analysis by a media monitoring organization, are rife with racial stereotypes, particularly directed towards Black individuals.
The organization found that one of the clips reached 14.2 million views and traced its origin to Google Veo 3 due to a watermark appearing in the corners of the videos. Additionally, some users included hashtags and usernames related to Veo 3 or artificial intelligence. The videos are characterized by being eight seconds long or composed of multiple clips that do not exceed this duration, which aligns with Veo 3's limit.
Launched in May, Veo 3 allows users to create video and audio clips from simple text. On its website, Google claims it will implement restrictions on harmful requests and results. For its part, TikTok also states that hate speech has no place on its platform and that it will not recommend content that perpetuates negative stereotypes about protected groups.
Ariane de Selliers, a TikTok spokesperson, assured that strict rules against hate speech are enforced and that the accounts identified in the report have been removed, many of which had already been banned prior to the report's publication.
Other platforms, such as YouTube and Instagram, have also seen the circulation of these racist AI-generated videos, though with a lower number of views compared to TikTok. In addition to containing antisemitic content, some of the observed videos include racist representations of immigrants and Asian individuals.
Google has not provided an immediate response to requests for comments on this matter.
