Substack launches new updates for live streaming as it intensifies its focus on video.

The new update allows creators to share snippets of their live videos through Notes, and Substack will provide them with real-time information about the performance of these clips.

In the past year, Substack has significantly expanded its video tools for creators, shifting from its original focus on newsletters. Recently, the platform introduced new features aimed at helping publishers grow and promote their live streams.

One of the main updates allows creators to share clips from their live videos through Notes, providing real-time notifications about their performance. This will enable publishers to identify which clips should be posted on other platforms, like YouTube Shorts, to reach a wider audience. Those who link their YouTube accounts will see the two standout clips automatically sent to their Shorts channels. This feature is currently available on the iOS app and will be accessible on Android next week.

Substack has also incorporated artificial intelligence to create highlight clips from video recordings. Additionally, when scheduling a livestream, the platform automatically generates promotional materials to share on Notes, YouTube, and other social media, saving time and effort for publishers. Another small but useful addition is the option to invite guests via email or SMS, which is helpful for followers who do not have a Substack account.

This announcement comes after Substack introduced audio-only live streams and a scrollable video feed. Earlier this year, the platform enabled live video capabilities for all publishers.
