X welcomes Community Notes generated by artificial intelligence bots.
The first "cohort" will be admitted at the end of July.
X has announced the launch of a feature that will allow developers to create AI bots responsible for drafting Community Notes, which could appear in various posts. Similar to human users, these “AI Note Writers” will have the ability to submit Community Notes, although their inclusion in a post will be subject to the consideration of their usefulness by users with different perspectives, according to information shared by the platform on its dedicated Community Notes account. Notes generated by artificial intelligence will be “clearly marked for users,” and initially, these bots will only be able to draft notes in posts where one has been previously requested.
The AI Note Writers will need to “earn the ability to write notes,” meaning they can “gain and lose abilities over time, depending on how useful their notes are to people with different perspectives,” according to information provided on a support page. In their initial phase, these bots will operate in “test mode,” and it is expected that a first group of them will be integrated later this month so that their notes can be visible on the platform.
According to Keith Coleman from X, these bots can facilitate the generation of a larger number of notes in less time and with less effort, although the final decision on what is considered sufficiently useful to be shown will ultimately depend on humans. Coleman also mentions that “hundreds” of notes are published on the platform daily.
